Sea-Teacher’s Day 14 (Independent Teaching Day 2)

February 02, 2018 0 Comments
Friday, February 2, 2018.

Today I just continue the topic, after reviewing about hinge theorem, we continue discuss about the converse of hinge theorem.
We also discuss some example problem about hinge theorem and the converse. And then I give them the exercise.

Exercise (not quiz).

At 4 p.m. is the first time for me to teach here, in 8-Gemelina. But I am not really feel nervous, not like yesterday in other section. Students here make me feel more relax. They listen to me and ask me some questions about the topic. Special for today we just have fifty minutes during a class.

Because of every Friday we have the flag retreat ceremony. Like today, after class at Gemelina I go to Pili with my CT. My CT is supervisor teacher of 8-Pili. So we have to stay there, to ensure students are orderly following the flag retreat ceremony.

There was another event after that, it is like closing ceremony for Math Celebration Week. Some of students from senior High school performing their show. How lucky I am to watch something interesting here.

Thursday, February 1, 2018.

This day is my first independent teaching’s day.
I teach in 8-Pili at 2 p.m. The topic is about Introduction of Hinge Theorem. I am very nervous, and I think I made a mistake in the first.
After class I ask to my CT. And kindly she tells me what is wrong and give me suggestion. She wants me to fix it when I teach in the next section. She support me to do improvement.
Actually I just can make a little improvement for the next section, because of all day I was very nervous.

This day I feel that to teach is not easy as I see before when I did the observation. Even we have lesson plan, we have to make sure that our self is ready to deliver the lesson clearly, without nervous and less mistakes.

It is like a chess. But using the principle of operation on integers. The winner is the one who got the highest score. The winners in the previous round will be competed again to get the real winner.

Damath Competition.

The poins is recorded on the sheet.

I show my draft of lesson plan to my cooperating teacher.
She gives me some suggestion about the lesson plan.
Tomorrow I will start to teach about this topic. So this night I prepare for the activity for students.

I use the Mathematics book that my CT given to me. The book is written in English. Because English is the second language in Philippines. Students and teachers always using english during the learning and teaching process.

Today is MATHIRA MATHIBAY.
MATHira MATHibay, means "the last man standing".
In this competition the participants work individually. Each section can send as many participants as possible. The illustration board, a board marker or chalk are needed for this. There are easy, moderate and difficult round. Each category has 10 rounds of questions. The questions display on the screen. The participants have to write the answer on the board. When times up, they should raise the board and show the answer. It is like “ranking satu” in Indonesia. The one who has wrong answer has to go out of the arena. For any questions given there are participants who failed. The final is when we got participants compete one on one.
Photos of Mathira mathibay.

On my observation in classes, my CT still discusses about the last topic, Inequality of one Triangle. She gives a review and an exercise to the students. For Acacia students, they just do the activity today.

As promises we plan to go to Chinatown. But until the time, the rain don’t stop fall since last night. So we change our plan. We are five, (Erwin, Ami, Vincent, Ivy and I) go to Santa Lucia Mall. It takes 30 minutes by taxi. We haven’t lunch yet, so we are looking for the restaurant that served halal food. And it happen again, we can’t find halal food here.

At Sta. Lucia Mall.
Vincent suggest us to move to SM Mall of Asia, we will find halal food there. I think it is far from here.

Nice view of that background.

SM Mall of Asia is known as the biggest mall in Philippines and also in Asia.
Mall of Asia (MoA) builds on the artificial land.
Across the Mall, there is a theme park, and it is appear before the sea. We take a boatride, and play the game there

Challenging game.
All of us play that game.
With buddies.

Some sections do the project about congruence and triangles, same project that given to the last section last day. And others given a new activity about transversal. In learning, teacher explain using some of examples and do question and answer with students.
As I see the responds from each section are different. For example Acacia’s students more active to answer the questions than Pili’s students. The last 20-15 minutes Ma’am Essie give them problem about the topic. The problem’s given will be different for each section, depend on how’re students there.

Acacia's student.

Ma’am Essie look so busy today, so when I ask her for absent on Friday, I ask to help her. I bring the last student’s paperwork and I will record the score in house.
My CT have 4 kinds of assessment that can be record for the formative assessment, they are Quiz, Assignment, Activity and Recitation.

Because of we will not meet on Friday, Ma’am allowed me to start teach after Tuesday and change topic to be Probability.
