Sea Teacher’s Day 4 (Observation day 1)

Tuesday, January 23, 2018

Two years ago, based on curriculum in Philippines, the students will be graduate from the high school after 4 years. But now after grade 10, they have two years more for Senior high school.
At present, Sta. Elena High School offers two Curriculum:
  1. The 2010 Secondary Education Curriculum (SEC) is offered to third year and fourth year High School Students.
  2. The K to 12 Curriculum which is offered to Grade 7 and Grade 8 Students.

Secondary Education Curriculum focuses on teaching and learning for understanding.
K to 12 Curriculum includes four years of Junior high school and two years senior high school, that provides sufficient time for mastery of concept and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.

One year is separated by four quarter. At the end of the each quarter, they will have an examination. And when they are grade 10, before they enter senior high school, they are given The National Achievement Test. It is a national exam.

There are two special Programs in Sta. Elena High School:
  1. The Science and Technology Program (STP), knowing as “Engineering and Science Education Program (ESEP)”. The STP is a science and mathematics-oriented curriculum design to prepare the students to engineering and science related courses in tertiary education.
  2. The Special Program in the Arts (SPA) is designed to cater to the needs of students who are talented in Creative writing, Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts.

The students who have SEC curriculum, they learn Math subject 5 days in a week. For K to 12 curriculum they learn Math Subject only 4 days in a week. It takes 60 minutes for each meeting.
In learning Math, focuses on varied analysis of Mathematical problems which is based on real life situation.

For my case, I have to teach in the different sections, one section is a regular class, two sections are STP classes, and two others are SPA classes.

Regular class
In regular class, there are 60 students in a classroom. But in special program class (STP and SPA) there are 40 students in a classroom.

After the class finish I ask to Ma'am Eisse how’s that? She says it is fine but I have to prepare for Molave tomorrow. So I can improve than today. And also she tells me to speak loudly.
I finish at 6.30 p.m. but I have to wait for Ami and Vincent. Because we have to back house together. It is so hard to get jeepney from SEHS, so we walk to another way. Actually we can use UV express or taxi, but jeepney is cheaper.
Untill 8.30 unfortunately it still hard to get our jeepney, but I really want to try it, so we take another jeepney and then take for tricycle to Ateneovillage.

Today my new friends suggest me to try to eat bilo-bilo for lunch. It has sweet taste and purple color. Very good and fully enough. It is like kolak in Indonesia. Bilo-bilo contains sweet potato, and it is 20 pesos only. And it can be find in Public Market, across of SEHS.

Bilo - bilo

They say that some seller sell halal food inside the public market, and it is recommended because the price here is cheaper than the grocery.
